The Election Campaign Financing Act (2013) and its subsidiary regulations set ceilings on how much a candidate may spend chasing a single office. The cap scales with the seat — presidential races have the highest ceiling, MCAs the lowest — and is updated by the IEBC ahead of each cycle.
A separate cap limits how much a single donor may contribute to a candidate or party in a cycle. Crossing either ceiling without a disclosure is a breach of the Act, even if the underlying money is otherwise legitimate.
Note: in late 2021 Parliament annulled the gazetted spending limits, and the IEBC has been preparing a refreshed set for 2027. Until those are re-published, this page treats the historical ECF Act amounts as the operative reference.
